SUPREME IS WATCHING THE JUDGES

New information system helps the monitoring and evaluation of performance in local courts
Abstract: El Vocero, Monday, November 30, 2009

The performance of those responsible for justice in the Puerto Rico is observed and evaluated by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, Federico Hernandez Denton, who told El Vocero that they have been provided with the tools to streamline processes.

The Chief Justice said that "Administrative Justices are preparing a report of pending cases, submitted cases, and which judge and court room is in charge of them." If someone has submitted cases assigned for a long time, he makes the call himself.

One of the new tools of the Courts Administration Office (OAT), known as the Intelligence Management System, provides the judges with an internal information system that notifies them with the pending cases, their status and scheduling order dates assigned. The judges can view in the system the cases they have been assigned and which has been resolved, resulting in greater control of their calendars, since they don’t have to wait for the lawyers' motions to remember that they have cases. Administrative Justices have global information of all the judges, and the Chief Justice has information about each judge, the region and the Court System. Moreover, the citizens can enter the portal of the Judicial Branch and verify their outstanding cases.
